As an photographer and creator, I am committed to not using Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in any of my creative endeavors. I do not use GenAI for:
- Plotting, planning, world-building, brainstorming, or research
- Writing, revising, or editing my written words
- Modifying photographs I have taken with a DSLR
- Cover art, interior art, or any other marketing materials for any of my creative works
The tools I will not use include, but are not limited to: ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, Claude, MidJourney, Nano Banana, and Stable Diffusion.
If I learn that someone I am collaborating with uses GenAI, I will immediately cease to work with them, including submitting to anthologies that use GenAI for cover art (case in point, Midnight Menagerie used MidJourney for their cover and I will not be submitting any short stories for future inclusion in their anthologies). This includes beta readers, editors, and artists, as I expect to get their human outputs when we enter a contract (either implied or written) to work together.
I will do my best to not purchase or support anything that uses GenAI. If it has obvious GenAI art on it, it is a clear indicator there was no effort applied in its creation and is not worth the time or money to consume this clear cash grab. If I receive something that was created with GenAI, it will be thrown in the trash. Businesses that use GenAI for their marketing will not receive my money.
